Founded in 1880, Bracknell played cricket until 1955 on our old ground adjacent to the old High Street. The pavilion stood near the junction of Crossway and Broadway. The old square lies under the Broadway near Bracknell Police Station. The Duke of Edinburgh opened the pavilion as it stands today at Larges Lane on 19th April 1955, our current home. 

 

A number of benefit matches were staged against Surrey who were County Champions from 1952 to 1958. Among their ranks were test players like May, Laker, Barrington, Lock and Bedser. In those days Tommy Jack was an outstanding all-rounder for the club, well supported by the bowling of Tony Denness, John Clarke and Eric Taylor, who all captured over 500 wickets. Viv Jones was one of the best Bracknell players in the mid to late '50s (fast bowler, dashing batsman). He once took 7 catches (as a fielder) in one of the celebrity matches in the late 50's on the current ground.

 

Many top class players have played at Larges Lane including Butcher and Thorpe, former England test cricket players. The ground has staged many prestigious matches including a start-studded Surrey v Sussex game in 1995, Berkshire matches in the eighties as well as Australia U-19 and Sri Lanka U-17 fixtures.

 

The club entered the Truman (later Lee) 1975 league and performed creditably in the '60s, '70s and '80s, often putting out 6 week-end elevens; a mid-week side plus evening, cup and competitive colts sides. During this period Martin Boyd, Wally Beevers and Alan Phillips scored over 10,000 runs for the club - Paul Marlow, Tim Miller and Glen Clarke have reached this milestone since in recent years. Dave Liston (1560 wickets) and Bert Barton (1189) were prolific wicket-takers and from the current teams, John Bray (who started for the colts in 1975) has taken over 1,000 wickets for the club. John Ainger claimed the most wicket-keeping dismissals in the clubs history. Most recently in 2016 Peter Henly took his 1,000th wicket for the club.

 

In recent years the club has continued to strive to improve its facilities and increase membership. Paul Marlow has continued to maintain the ground to an extremely high standard. As a result the club benefits from one of the finest playing facilities in the Thames Valley League. The club has seen a steady rise is both playing members & helpers/ supporters, leading to recent rejuvenation. 

 

The club runs two senior sides in the Thames Valley Cricket League on Saturdays and also enters a side in the Bracknell Midweek 20/20 evening league and cup (in which the club has tasted several successes in the recent past).

 

In 2012, Bracknell Cricket Club attained the ECB ClubMark accreditation. This is a great achievement and will give the club the opportunity to further develop its playing strength, attract new members and improve facilities.

 

The club has gone from strength to strength; obtaining a £75,000 grant from Sports England to renovate the clubhouse and facilities at the club.

In 2018 Christopher White was appointed Club Chairman and a new look committee was formed.

 

In 2019 the club secured a main shirt sponsor with AVIS, who has there UK head office based in Bracknell. 

The club launched our colts U9s team and they entered into there first season in the Berkshire Youth Cricket League! 2020 see the launch of the club cricket academy and our U11s team for the upcoming BYCL season.
